Javed Chaudhry writes about the illness of Asif Ali Zardari and raises question why he opted to go Dubai for his medical treatment. Is there no competent doctor or better hospital present in country.

We live the in Australia and few years ago a Pakistani diplomat and his wife, a Pakistani lady, came to stay with us, and I told the lady that I have a good collection of Urdu prose and poetry and she should consider herself free to use any of the books. The lady replied, I’m sorry I cannot read Urdu. How unfortunate, but she was not alone. She was one of the many many who are aliens in their own country. They talk to each other in English they express themselves in English and they cannot read or write in the national language.this is no news to anyone in Pakistan, where our PM addresses the Parliament in English and so does ourf…… Pres
I wanted to go overseas for my cataract operation and on the top of the list of countries with excellent facilities at reasonable prices was India not Pakistan. there was yet another surprise waiting for me, the Indian government would not give me Visa on my Australian passport and I had to renew my Pakistani passport. I logged on to the Pakistan High Commission’s webpage and I was shocked to see a photograph of the Sydney Harbour Bridge on the top of the page. I did not know if Pakistan had Sydney Harbour Bridge in the country, perhaps nobody will believe me, but please check it at http://www.pakistan.org.Please see for yourself. You would also find and unrecognisable picture of the founder of Pakistannot the one we all are familiar with.
I’m afraid, it is all too much, we are the nation that live on slogans and more slogans. We are more concerned with protocol. Where was our president when 24 dead bodies were brought in Peshawar for their final farewell the Pres was sitting in his bunker afraid to get out, the Prime Minister and all his ministers were nowhere to be seen. No opposition leader worth the name was present. This was not an isolated incident, from the newspapers, one hears that the Pres and his entourage were in contact with the flood victims through video link. Here in Australia, we also had floods in Queensland, it was Christmas time last year and the Premier was away Interstate on holidays, she cut short her visit to come to be with the flood affected people. our Pres went overseas for a holidayduring the flood crisis. Do we deserve to be counted among the living? I doubt it very much.
