Pakistanis practice a unique brand of Islam… even my Arab acquaintances wonder where it came from. Arabs have co-existed with the Jews and Christians for centuries and they still do so in Egypt, Syria, Iraq Turkey… and they practice Islam too. No where in the world people have so much intolerance as in Pakistan. Where is it coming from? Yes we did chose to make a separate state for the Muslims ie Pakistan but that was based on the fact that Caste system was and is still practiced in India and Muslims were at risk. We do have difference of opinion with the West over the expansionist ideology of US… but that does not deserve the militancy directed towards its own people and society. I sometimes I wonder if Pakistanis suffer from the “Caste system syndrome” which is inherent in the people of the subcontinent !!! Or it could be that Pakistanis have been deprived of education an culture by their mybaaps and feudal lords!!! We certainly move out of this very negative mode and face the real enemies.. which is JAHALAT and of course CORRUPTION.

an eye opener from javed – as always! the mental amke-up of sub-continental muslims is complex; masses were primarily hindu-converts and that legacy haunts them even after hundreds of years. the gap between those who seek knowledge and those who want to remain ignorant, is huge. hypocrisy in society is rife. impure food, impure medicine and impure thoughts encourage lust for power and money. social scientists need to debate the issue at length. low calibre people lead the society. and the fact remains that despite all this, some pakistanis, when given the chance, still rank amongst the best in the fields of medicine, banking, business, charity and army. Pak Army is the best even when compared to yhose of the developed countries; other muslim armies just a social club. Time to think. These issues must be debated fairly and intelligently.
